Alibaba Group Holding and HongShan led a $1B+ funding round into Moonshot AI, valuing the Chinese AI startup at $2.5B, according to LatePost. The round is the largest for any Chinese AI startup since ChatGPT's release in late 2022. Moonshot developed the intelligent chatbot, Kimi Chat, powered by its proprietary Moonshot large language model (LLM). The model is capable of processing up to 200,000 Chinese characters within a given context window, meaning it can analyze and understand a vast amount of text at once. In November, Kimi Chat opened its doors to everyone, moving beyond the beta testing phase to full public availability. CEO and computer scientist Yang Zhilin founded Moonshot AI in April 2023. In 2016, he formed Recurrent.ai, which leverages AI technologies to develop sales solutions.
